Delegate Durant was hard at work during the 2023 legislative session, advancing legislation on the issues that matter to Virginia families. Despite the Senate Democrats' 'brick wall' in the Virginia Senate, Tara and House Republicans worked tirelessly to implement Governor Youngkin's common-sense agenda. Tara is standing strong for our conservative values and fighting for our community. Below are some of the key pieces of legislation Tara introduced and championed this session.

HB 1508 - Co-Patron
Establishes Education Success Accounts, empowering parents and families to provide the best education opportunities for their child.

HB 1903 - Chief Patron
Requires school libraries to maintain an online portal accessible to parents; notifies parents of materials checked out by their child.

HB 2426
Prohibits schools from withholding information on student recognition, awards or scholarship eligibility from parents or students.

HB 2432 - Sage's Law - Chief Patron

HB 1484 - Chief Co-Patron
Fully eliminates the grocery tax, removing the 1% local sales tax from food and hygiene products.

HB 2138 & 2319 - Co-Patron
Reduces the state income tax on families and businesses; increases the standard deduction.

HB 1436 - Co-Patron
Removes the 55+ age restriction for those allowed a military benefits income tax subtraction.

HB 1927 - Chief Patron
Removes the penalty for taxpayers who send payments by mail. Passed the House and Senate unanimously.

HB 1942 - Chief Patron
Increases transparency in property tax reassessment. Passed the House and Senate with overwhelming support.

SB 1032 - Co-Patron
Property tax relief for disabled veterans and surviving spouses of those killed in action.
